    Jiangsu Non-Grid Connected Wind Power and High Energy-Loaded Engineering Laboratory

      

    Jiangsu Non-Grid Connected Wind Power and High Energy-Loaded Engineering Laboratory was founded by Nanjing University and Macro Economic Research Institute of the Jiangsu Development and Reform Commission in December 2, 2010. Professor Shi Yi, head of the school of Electronic Science and Engineering and GuWeidong, researcher of Macro Economic Research Institute were appointed as director of the laboratory.

      

    To meet the national strategic demand of developing and applying new resources, the laboratory focuses on the key technology and experiments in non-grid connected wind power and high energy-loaded engineering. The lab develops sample machine and important parts of major equipment, conducts research on the standard of industrial technology, cultivates innovative talents and promote the application of important research findings to provide technological services for the industry and enterprises.

      

    The lab has achieved great success since its establishment. It was responsible for 3 important scientific subjects of the National Scientific Supporting Program such as the design of technical scheme of Megawatt Non-Grid Connected Wind Power Sea Water Desalinization, which urged the Jiangsu government as well as the Hadian Company, Yancheng Dafeng government to invest in a wind power sea water desalinization program in Dafeng which is worth 288 million yuan. The lab has published 8 SCI/SSCI theses and it owns 3 patents and 1 registered software copyright. The lab has hold the World Non-Grid Connected Wind Power Conference continuous for 5 times. Meanwhile, it attended 2013 International Conference of International Desalination Association, the 2013 World Hydrogen Technologies Convention, the 2015 Distributed Energy International Summit, etc. Professor Gu Weidong gives speeches for the conventions for several times.

    Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Molecular Medicine


    Proposed by Nanjing University Medical School in 2007 according to Construction Plan of Jiangsu Science and Technology Infrastructure, Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Molecular Medicine was founded in 2011. It now owns more than 30 PI laboratories and has achieved rich fruits by equipment of high level. The lab comprises 3 research platforms related to the Biomedical Science which including Translational Medicine Center of Nanjing University Medical School, Gulou Hospital Central Laboratory of Nanjing University Medical School, and the Gene transformation platform of the Nanjing University Model Animal Research Institute. Three main research areas were established since the lab’s foundation.

      

    Gene transformation and modal animalsSupported by Nanjing University Model Animal Research Institute, a key laboratory, the lab established the gene transformational animal models of mice, rats and large animals with gene transformation technology as its key point to breakthrough. Besides creating a database of Chinese ill animals, the lab independently transformed the genes of more than 100 animals and introduced in more than 1000 for exotic animal models. An international breakthrough was made in the transformation of new technology of the 3rd gene generation.

      

    Molecular Diagnostics and Cell Therapy  The lab conducts research on molecular mechanism of diseases, clinical diagnosis, identical diagnosis, treatment supervision and the application of clinical cell therapy. It has reach the international level in tailored medication for tumor, treatment of refractory autoimmune diseases and the clinical application of novel artificial liver. The lab has received several national scientific advancement awards (second class), national natural science award (second class) and scientific advancement awards (first award) by the Ministry of Education.

      

    Disease Mechanism and Basic Medicine  Research is conducted on the application of pathogenic microbes, molecular mechanisms of metabolism and immune diseases, medical genetics and the technology of new materials and new optical technology. The lab has made several breakthrough by publishing a number of theses about high impact factors which has pushed the researching level of such diseases to a new height.

    Jiangsu Provincial Key laboratory of coastal zone and islands development

      

    The Jiangsu Provincial key laboratory of coastal zone and islands development focuses on the study of coastal zones. The laboratory has a multi-disciplinary based research center, involving subjects of oceanography, geology, geography, chemistry, biology, information technology and constructive planning. The laboratory is dedicated to studies of coastal zones, islands, resources around shallow continental shelf, and researches of ocean environment and ecology. It also aims to explore natural laws of coastal and oceanic evolvement under the background of global changes and helps constructive planning and decision making as well as do experiments of exploring resources and predicting natural disasters.

      

    There are a group of outstanding experts and researchers in the laboratory including an academician of Chinese Academy of science, three “Yangtze River” scholars, two obtainers of national outstanding youth funds, one winner of Education Ministry’s New Century Excellent Talents Supporting Plan, 13 professors, 10 assistant professors and 12 technicians. The laboratory is based on nation-level key discipline of physical geography and province-level key discipline of oceanic geology and center of national talents of sciences.

      

    The laboratory makes full use of the key disciplines of Nanjing University and carries out original researches in areas mentioned in the national medium and long-range program including study of fundamental science, scientific study of energy, resources and the ocean, study of ecology, environment protection and eco-efficient economy, meeting the demands of resources exploitation and environment protection during the process of building a moderately-prosperous society and achieving moderate modernization by the middle of this century. The laboratory aims to provide technological support related to exploitation of coastal and island resources, water resource, harbor resource, biological resources, and ecological improvement for the social and economic development of Jiangsu Province, increasing Jiangsu Province’s proportion of marine economic development in the country’ whole economic development.

      

    The laboratory does experiments in coastal sedimentary system, coastal interaction of ocean-continent-atmosphere, ecological evolvement of coastal zone and island, coastal hydrologic cycle, cainozoic environmental changes East-Asian climate changes and regional responses of environmental changes. It also does researches in the protection of national interests, construction of key harbors, ecologic improvement of coastal zones, sustainable development of marine territory and biological resources, coastal city planning, coastal zone development and management technologies. We are devoted to the building of first-class marine laboratories, the education of talents with high capacity of innovation and the building of advanced data acquisition and analysis systems, improving Jiangsu Province’s competitiveness in the area of sustainable development and marine economy. 


  • Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Vehicle Emissions Control

    Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Vehicle Emissions Control

      

    Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Vehicle Emissions Control is established based on the cooperation between Nanjing University and local enterprises. In June 2010, the laboratory was designed and constructed with the help of multi-disciplinary centers of Center of Modern Analysis, Nanjing University and catalytic cleaner company of Wuxi Weifu High-Technology Group Co., Ltd, which was completed and received its certificate from Jiangsu Province in December 2013. In 2014, the laboratory passed the test for Province-level key laboratory with good grades and received scientific funds of ¥2,000,000/ year for three years. The laboratory now has 50 researchers and 10 visiting experts. Among them, there are two academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering, one from the “project of thousand youth talents”, and four from the “333 provincial project”. The present supervisor of this academic group is academician Zhang Guocheng, with two associate supervisors, professor Lu Guanzhong and Professor Dong Lin. Professor Dong Lin is the present director of the laboratory.

      

    The laboratory aims to reduce exhaust gas emissions and improve quality of the environment. The laboratory is dedicated to developing highly efficient catalysts for pollutants in atmosphere, in exploring new techniques and approaches by doing researches in measures against mobile and stationary pollution sources, and measures controlling gas emissions in the atmosphere.

      

    In terms of measures against mobile pollutant sources, the laboratory carries out studies in material as new catalysts and in the catalytic theory of its efficiency by analyzing the chemical reactions during the catalysis, which eventually leads to the development of high-efficient catalysts that can operate in harsh conditions. The lab plans to create high-efficient catalysts with multi functions by carefully studying the design, preparation, and characterizations of the catalysts, understanding the “component-structure-function” relationship of the catalytic materials. The lab, in the meanwhile, also focuses on the abatement of pollutants produced by new sources of energy for automobiles as well as the reinforcement of necessary equipment.

      

    As for measures against stationary pollutants, such as emissions of NOx, CO2 and VOCs from coal-fired power plants, chemical plants and refuse landfills, the lab plans to carry out fundamental studies to develop high-efficient catalysts, and provide theoretical support for the design and development of relative catalysts by exploring the mechanisms of the catalytic reactions.

      

    In terms of measures controlling emissions in the atmosphere, the lab tries to work out comprehensive measures including the design of new catalysts, coating machine, catalytic converter, desulfurization technology, and the design of urea dosing system.


    The laboratory has taken charge of / taken part in three projects from the national “973 program”, 8 projects from the national “863 program”, 2 projects from national natural science foundation of China's major scientific equipment development, over 10 projects from the general program, and other projects. More than 200 academic papers have been published, including over 60 SCI papers. The lab has applied for over 50 patents, among which more than 10 were authorized. The lab takes part in making one national standards and designs 3 new products. The lab has obtained 2 Second Class Prizes of the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award, and 1 Third Class Prize of the Jiangsu Scientific and Technological Award.

      

    The laboratory is equipped with all kinds of advanced equipment and can give access to around 5-10 research studies every year and accept 10 visiting professors/ researchers each year.

    Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Nano Technology

      

    Approved by Science and Technology Department of Jiangsu Province, the key Laboratory of Jiangsu Province for Nano Technology was founded in September 2002, and passed the acceptance in 2006. The laboratory was rated as one of good laboratories by Science and Technology Department of Jiangsu Province in 2007 and 2010 respectively, and one of excellent laboratories in 2013. It has 33 faculty members, including two academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, two Special Professors of “Cheung Kong Scholars Program”, three “Global Experts Program” scholars, two “Global Young Experts Program” Scholars, two National Outstanding Youth Fund Award winners, five in the Ministry of Education (MOE) “New Century Outstanding Personnel Support Program”. The current honorary director of Academic Committee is academician Du Youwei, and the director of Academic Committee is academician Li Shutang while the current director of the laboratory is academician Zou Zhigang.

      

    The laboratory focuses on research on application basics and technology and its main research areas cover nano energy and environment science, nano optoelectronics and devices, nano-magnetic materials and devices closely related to nanomaterials and nanotechnology. In terms of nano-energy and environment science, the laboratory focuses on hydrogen production utilizing photocatalytic solar energy and environmental purification and restoration utilizing photocatalytic solar energy. In term of nano optoelectronics and devices, it focuses on manufacturing solar cells with higher photovoltaic effect by application of artificial micro-nano structures. In terms of nano-magnetic materials and devices, it focuses on spin-dependent transport properties, cross effects with magneto-electricity, magneto-optic, magneto-thermo, and magneto-elasticity, and application of novel magnetic nano functionalized materials and devices.

      

    Since its foundation, the laboratory has entailed two national “973” scientific research programs, ten national “973” scientific research projects and six 863 programs (The National High Technology Research and Development Program), one Major Program of Natural Science Foundation of China, four Key Programs and more than 60 General Programs, one joint innovation fund for industry-university-research cooperation—major innovation platform construction of Jiangsu Province, two science and technology support programs of Jiangsu Province, ten more Natural Science Foundation Programs of Jiangsu Province, and more than 20 horizontal programs. In total, more than 1400 research papers were published including more 1200 “SCI” papers, 120 more applications for national invention patent with more than 50 authorized. The lab also received two National Scientific Awards (second class), one National Science and Technology and Natural Science Award (second class), nominated by the Ministry of Education, three Jiangsu Province Science and Technology Award(first class), and two for second class, one Ho Leung Ho Lee Science and Technology Progress Award, etc. Dissertations of two graduates received the National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award, and one excellent doctoral dissertation award of Jiangsu Province.

      

    Large-scale modern instruments in the laboratory: Physical Property Measurement System (PPMS)-9, Magnetic Property Measurement System (MPMS) XL-7, LS 7307-9309 vibrating sample magnetometer, Scanning Probe Microscope, Dimension V, Veeco, scanning electron microscope, QEX10 solar cell analysis system, HR800 Raman spectrometer. Every year, the laboratory approves about 10 open projects, and its laboratory for visiting personnel can accept 10 visiting scholars, and five senior visiting scholar sponsored by the Ministry of Education per year.

    Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Geographic Information Technology


    This laboratory was co-founded in 2012 by the Nanjing University and Jiangsu Provincial Geomatics Centre at the approval of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Finance of Jiangsu Province and Department of Science and Technology.

      

    The laboratory aims to meet the needs of the development of geographic information science and technology at home and abroad and to integrate itself into the construction of Jiangsu’s science and technology innovation systems and the development blueprint of geographic information industry. To achieve these aims, the laboratory has the following three areas of research:

    Analysis and presentation of geographic information;

    Remote sensing of land and atmospheric carbon cycles; and

    Surveillance of regional geographic conditions.


    The laboratory develops such geographic theories, technologies and methods as geoscience big data, cartography, geographic information system, cloud computing, remote sensing, system of geography sensors and smart cities in order to promote the application of geographic information technology and promote the sound development of this industry, and strengthen its support for national economic and social development.

      

    Oriented to the cutting-edge development of international science and technology, the laboratory has engaged in research on carbon cycling and remote land and atmospheric sensing. It has received support by China’s national “973 Program,” the National key R&D Programs, and the National Natural Science Fund. It focuses on current important issues in the global carbon cycle research and has carried out research in remote sensing and surveillance, modeling and simulating, and atmospheric inversion. It tries to optimize the computation of land carbon sources in different regions, illustrate carbon storage and flux under varied terrestrial ecosystems in different regions of the world, and define China’s contributions to the global ecosystem carbon sink. Such research has yielded over 20 SCI / SSCI papers on such internationally famous academic journals as PNAS and RSE.

      

    In 2014, the laboratory completed its national key scientific research project, “the Evolution Driving Mechanism and Optimized Computing Research of Carbon Sources & Sinks of Terrestrial Ecosystem in Different Regions of the World” and was rated “excellent” in the acceptance check carried out by the State Ministry of Science and Technology.

      

    In 2016, the laboratory was entrusted to lead the national key R&D project, “High Resolution Systematic Research of Global Carbon Assimilation Based on Multi-Source Satellite Remote Sensing.”

      

    In the same year, the laboratory won the first prize of the Science and Technology Research Results Award of Jiangsu Colleges and Universities for the quality of its research in the project the “Parallel Technology of the Conversion and Visualization of Complex Geographic Computing Data.”

      

    Considering China’s major needs, the laboratory has researched into the remote sensing of the South China Sea and the surveillance and mapping of geographic conditions of China so as to contribute to China’s efforts to safeguard its rights and interests in the South China Sea, develop regional peace, explore and exploit resources and energies. Its work has been supported by the national “863 Program,” the National Supporting Program of Science and Technology, the National Special Research Fund for Non-Profit Sector, the National Natural Science Fund, and the National Social Science Fund of China.


    The laboratory has made a series of achievements from the technology of remote sensing and dynamic monitoring to the construction of comprehensive data warehouses, to the assessment of model base clusters, and to the decision-making supporting platform.


    It has enhanced the remote sensing technology and service of the South China Sea from partial to whole, from still to dynamic, and from single to systematic.


    It has garnered important results such as atlases, monographs, nationally authorized patents, copyrights of computer software, research papers, special reports in information, consultation reports, databases, model bases, and software systems.


    It won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award of Year 2014 and the first prize of the Ministry-of-Education Science and Technology Progress Award of Year 2013 for the research result of its project “the Remote Sensing & Comprehensive Monitoring of the South China Sea and its Surroundings, and Analysis of Decision-Making & Supporting.”

      

    To meet the social and economic needs of Jiangsu Province, the laboratory has engaged in research on thematic maps, provincial situation analysis and geographic information services. Its work has been supported by such programs as

    the National Supporting Program for Science and Technology;

    the National Natural Science Fund;

    the Science and Technology Program of the National Administration of Surveying, Mapping and Geo-information;

    Jiangsu Major Scientific Infrastructure;

    the Natural Science Foundation of Jiangsu Province; and

    programs of regional cooperation.  

      

    The laboratory’s work in Jiangsu focuses on serving the needs in national land, water conservancy, public security, surveying and mapping. Its has developed such framework constructing programs of geographic space as digital Wuxi, digital Changzhou and digital Huaian.


    It has developed service platforms of geographic information and government affairs in transportation, water conservancy, emergency, and police only.


    It has developed public service platforms of geographic information such as “Three-Dimensional Map of Jiangsu,” ““Three-Dimensional Map of Taizhou,” and  “Three-Dimensional Map of Suqian.”


    It has compiled thematic atlases in such areas as administrative division of Jiangsu Province, water conservancy, and environmental protection.


    It has studied the geographic situation of Jiangsu Province in aspects of natural and human geographic situations by studying the coastal mudflat, land subsidence, arable land, river systems, and transportation situation of Jiangsu Province.


    It has finished the following research projects:

    “Research of Mapping Norms on the Overall Planning of Land Utilization at the Village, Town and City Levels (of China),” which won the first prize of the (China) Geographic Information Science and Technology Progress Award in 2013;

    “Provincial-Level Construction and Application of Geographic Information Cloud Service Platform,” which won the first prize of the (China) Geographic Information Science and Technology Progress Award in 2014; and

    “Provincial-Level Construction and Application of Water Conservancy Information Service Platform,” which won the first prize of the (China) Geographic Information Science and Technology Progress Award in 2016.

    In 2013, the laboratory participated in the appraisal of the “Collaborative Innovation Center of the South China Sea,” one of the first National 2011 Programs of China, and collaboratively constructed the platform of “Remote Sensing & Monitoring and Situation Analysis of the South China Sea.”

      

    In 2015, the laboratory led and succeeded in the application for “Earth System,” a virtual lab and teaching center at the national level, to be constructed in cooperation with relevant schools and departments of Nanjing University.

      

    To conclude, the laboratory is now striving forward with the aim of becoming a cradle for knowledge and technological innovation in geographic information and for nurturing creative talents.

    Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Data Engineering and Knowledge Service

      

    The laboratory was established in 2014 by the joint efforts of Nanjing University and Jiangsu Institute of Science and Technology Information.

      

    It was built on the basis of Nanjing University’s institute of information technology development, which was established in 1994 and focused on the research and software development for information management and knowledge service, information processing and retrieval, and information analysis and scientific assessment. In these areas, it yielded outstanding results and social impact. The current laboratory and its predecessor both emphasize the research and teaching of modern technology relevant to the management of information resources, keep absorbing the latest achievements in information technology, apply the data mining theory and technology to the processing of information resources, utilize mathematic theories, hypertext technology and artificial intelligence in the research of information retrieval computing, and carry out multi-dimensional processing of citation indexes by adopting Chinese Social Sciences citation indexes established upon databases and introducing online analytical processing.

      

    The achievements of the laboratory:

    It has taken charge of over 10 major national social science biding projects, projects of the National Natural Science Fund, projects of the National Social Science Fund, and provincial level and enterprise projects.

    It has published over 400 papers on academic journals at home and abroad, including over 70 published on first-rate national and international journals (cited by SCI, EI, and ISTP).

    It has published over 10 books.

    It has won many awards from the Ministry of Education, Jiangsu Philosophy and Social Sciences, and Nanjing University.

      

    The director of the laboratory is Professor Ye Ying (Fred Y. Ye), who works in School of Information Management, Nanjing University. He is a fellow of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts.

      

    The director of the academic committee of the laboratory, its academic leader, is Professor Su Xinning, who also works in School of Information Management, Nanjing University. He is a winner of the title of the Ministry-of-Education Cheung Kong Scholar.

      

    The laboratory has a full-time or part-time faculty of nearly 50 people. Its major research areas include data integration and planning, knowledge correlation technology, data analysis theories and knowledge service technology in the context of big data, with the highest priority given to the last research areas.

      

    In cooperation with relevant enterprises and public institutions, the laboratory will establish a demonstrative platform for data, technology and service, facilitating transformation and promotion of related applications and technology.

      

    As an open laboratory, the Key Laboratory of Data Engineering and Knowledge Services will also provide data and equipment platforms every year, setting up open topics for scholars from at home and abroad to participate in the studies of data engineering and knowledge service.

      

    The laboratory is committed to putting its strengths into full play, studying cutting-edge issues of information science, and enhancing its scientific research quality. On the one hand, it is going to increase the quantity and quality of its research results. On the other hand, it will continue to cultivate more qualified and capable professionals and talents with a broad and solid professional foundation in information technology who can meet social demands for talents. It will work to build itself into a scientific research institution that integrates industry, university and research.
