Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Vehicle Emissions Control
Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Vehicle Emissions Control is established based on the cooperation between Nanjing University and local enterprises. In June 2010, the laboratory was designed and constructed with the help of multi-disciplinary centers of Center of Modern Analysis, Nanjing University and catalytic cleaner company of Wuxi Weifu High-Technology Group Co., Ltd, which was completed and received its certificate from Jiangsu Province in December 2013. In 2014, the laboratory passed the test for Province-level key laboratory with good grades and received scientific funds of ¥2,000,000/ year for three years. The laboratory now has 50 researchers and 10 visiting experts. Among them, there are two academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering, one from the “project of thousand youth talents”, and four from the “333 provincial project”. The present supervisor of this academic group is academician Zhang Guocheng, with two associate supervisors, professor Lu Guanzhong and Professor Dong Lin. Professor Dong Lin is the present director of the laboratory.
The laboratory aims to reduce exhaust gas emissions and improve quality of the environment. The laboratory is dedicated to developing highly efficient catalysts for pollutants in atmosphere, in exploring new techniques and approaches by doing researches in measures against mobile and stationary pollution sources, and measures controlling gas emissions in the atmosphere.
In terms of measures against mobile pollutant sources, the laboratory carries out studies in material as new catalysts and in the catalytic theory of its efficiency by analyzing the chemical reactions during the catalysis, which eventually leads to the development of high-efficient catalysts that can operate in harsh conditions. The lab plans to create high-efficient catalysts with multi functions by carefully studying the design, preparation, and characterizations of the catalysts, understanding the “component-structure-function” relationship of the catalytic materials. The lab, in the meanwhile, also focuses on the abatement of pollutants produced by new sources of energy for automobiles as well as the reinforcement of necessary equipment.
As for measures against stationary pollutants, such as emissions of NOx, CO2 and VOCs from coal-fired power plants, chemical plants and refuse landfills, the lab plans to carry out fundamental studies to develop high-efficient catalysts, and provide theoretical support for the design and development of relative catalysts by exploring the mechanisms of the catalytic reactions.
In terms of measures controlling emissions in the atmosphere, the lab tries to work out comprehensive measures including the design of new catalysts, coating machine, catalytic converter, desulfurization technology, and the design of urea dosing system.
The laboratory has taken charge of / taken part in three projects from the national “973 program”, 8 projects from the national “863 program”, 2 projects from national natural science foundation of China's major scientific equipment development, over 10 projects from the general program, and other projects. More than 200 academic papers have been published, including over 60 SCI papers. The lab has applied for over 50 patents, among which more than 10 were authorized. The lab takes part in making one national standards and designs 3 new products. The lab has obtained 2 Second Class Prizes of the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award, and 1 Third Class Prize of the Jiangsu Scientific and Technological Award.
The laboratory is equipped with all kinds of advanced equipment and can give access to around 5-10 research studies every year and accept 10 visiting professors/ researchers each year.
