Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Nano Technology
Approved by Science and Technology Department of Jiangsu Province, the key Laboratory of Jiangsu Province for Nano Technology was founded in September 2002, and passed the acceptance in 2006. The laboratory was rated as one of good laboratories by Science and Technology Department of Jiangsu Province in 2007 and 2010 respectively, and one of excellent laboratories in 2013. It has 33 faculty members, including two academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, two Special Professors of “Cheung Kong Scholars Program”, three “Global Experts Program” scholars, two “Global Young Experts Program” Scholars, two National Outstanding Youth Fund Award winners, five in the Ministry of Education (MOE) “New Century Outstanding Personnel Support Program”. The current honorary director of Academic Committee is academician Du Youwei, and the director of Academic Committee is academician Li Shutang while the current director of the laboratory is academician Zou Zhigang.
The laboratory focuses on research on application basics and technology and its main research areas cover nano energy and environment science, nano optoelectronics and devices, nano-magnetic materials and devices closely related to nanomaterials and nanotechnology. In terms of nano-energy and environment science, the laboratory focuses on hydrogen production utilizing photocatalytic solar energy and environmental purification and restoration utilizing photocatalytic solar energy. In term of nano optoelectronics and devices, it focuses on manufacturing solar cells with higher photovoltaic effect by application of artificial micro-nano structures. In terms of nano-magnetic materials and devices, it focuses on spin-dependent transport properties, cross effects with magneto-electricity, magneto-optic, magneto-thermo, and magneto-elasticity, and application of novel magnetic nano functionalized materials and devices.
Since its foundation, the laboratory has entailed two national “973” scientific research programs, ten national “973” scientific research projects and six 863 programs (The National High Technology Research and Development Program), one Major Program of Natural Science Foundation of China, four Key Programs and more than 60 General Programs, one joint innovation fund for industry-university-research cooperation—major innovation platform construction of Jiangsu Province, two science and technology support programs of Jiangsu Province, ten more Natural Science Foundation Programs of Jiangsu Province, and more than 20 horizontal programs. In total, more than 1400 research papers were published including more 1200 “SCI” papers, 120 more applications for national invention patent with more than 50 authorized. The lab also received two National Scientific Awards (second class), one National Science and Technology and Natural Science Award (second class), nominated by the Ministry of Education, three Jiangsu Province Science and Technology Award(first class), and two for second class, one Ho Leung Ho Lee Science and Technology Progress Award, etc. Dissertations of two graduates received the National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award, and one excellent doctoral dissertation award of Jiangsu Province.
