INTRODUCTION
The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering was founded in 1920, and it is now composed of three departments: Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Polymer Science and Engineering. In the past nine decades, about 40 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Science once studied or worked here. As one of the leading schools in chemistry in China, the school was ranked the 2nd best in the third round of the national disciplinary assessment in 2012.

FACULTY
The school currently has 152 faculty members, and 90 of them are full professors, 5 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 4 scholars enrolled in the “Thousand Talents Program,” 11 Changjiang Chair or Lecture Professors, 19 winners of “NSFC Outstanding Youth Fund Award,” and 13 scholars enrolled in the “Thousand Youth Talents Program.”
RESEARCH PLATFORMS
State Key Laboratory of Coordination Chemistry
State Key Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry for Life Sciences
MOE Key Laboratory of Mesoscopic Chemistry
MOE Key Laboratory of High-Performance Polymer Materials and Technology
PERSONNEL TRAINING
The school is enlisted amongst the first national bases for teaching and research in basic sciences. Its Demonstration Center for Experiment Teaching was ranked No. 1 in the first national assessment of Experiment Teaching Center for Excellence launched in 2005. Five of the foundation chemistry courses were recognized as the Nationally Excellent Courses. Two teaching contingents have been selected as the State Teaching Contingents by the Ministry of Education. The school has received more than 30 national and provincial teaching awards and many other honorary titles. The school recruits about 150 undergraduate and 270 graduate students each year.

RESEARCH
Since 2010, the school has received more than 200 grants from the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Among them 1 is a national key project for scientific instruments development, 2 projects for creative research groups, 16 key projects and 1 major project, 4 distinguished young scholar award projects, 5 excellent youth scholar award projects, and 68 grants from the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and Jiangsu Province.
The annual research funds for the school have reached about 140 million yuan. According to the statistics of the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI), the number of papers published by the faculty of the school and their total citation are among the top 1‰ in the global research institutions, respectively ranking at the 16th and 28th. These figures put the school on the top of the list of the universities in mainland China.
Due to its excellent achievements, the school was awarded, in the last decade, 3 second prizes of the National Natural Sciences, 1 second prize of National Science and Technology Progress, 10 first prizes of ministerial and provincial awards.
EXCHANGE AND COOPERATION
The school maintains strong international academic exchange and cooperation with international institutions. Many world-leading scholars, including several Nobel laureates, are invited to be guest professors at the school. Several other internationally recognized scholars are recipients of the National Science Fund for Overseas Distinguished Young Scholars.
The school has hosted and sponsored 15 national and international conferences on various topics over the recent 5 years. Well-known scientists including Nobel laureates were invited to give lectures and speeches at the school. Faculty members attended and gave plenary and keynote talks in international conferences and symposiums.
