Course description:

Important Archaeological Findings and Development of Conservation Research in China presents an introduction to the fundamental principles of archaeological method and theory, findings and excavations, as well as archaeological science and a number of distinctive conservation applications in a wide variety of Chinese archaeological sites and artifacts. 

 

The course design adopts a multi-syllabus approach appropriate to the university students who are not only interested in Chinese ancient culture, but also concerned about the practices in excavations, in museums and in heritage work, especially dramatic changes in many fields contributed by scientific advances.

 

The syllabuses include diverse themes relevance to representative archaeological findings, accompanied with science involvement and conservation issues to raise students’ awareness of some of the more intriguing and challenging aspects of archaeology in China today. It encourages the students to participant theme discussion by using their knowledge, experience and skills in interactive situations. Meanwhile, it promotes intercultural awareness and develops critical thinking in a broader way by making best use of the resources within their classroom as well as outdoors, such as in museums and archaeological sites.
