• On May 20th, 2002, the History Museum of Nanjing University was founded and opened to the public simultaneously. More than 260,000 people have visited the History Museum up till now. In 2004, the Museum was awarded “Jiangsu Province Educational Base for Patriotism” by Publicity Department of Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee.
  • No.1 Xiaofenqiao, Guangzhou Road, Nanjing was where Mr. John Rabe (1882-1950), representative of the German Siemens China Co. in Nanjing, resided from 1932 to 1938. Since Nanjing fell into the hands of the Japanese troops, this house became one of the 25 refugee camps in the Nanjng Safety Zone. Of the 250,000 refugees who flooded into the Zone to seek shelter, over 600 had been protected by this single house from Japanese persecution.
  • Pearl Buck spent the most important period of her literary career at the University of Nanking. On the garret of a western style building, she finished The Good Earth, her most influential works of literature. The best-selling novel that depicts Chinese peasants’ life won her the Pulitzer Prize in 1932. Six years later, together with other literary works, she was crowned with 1938 Nobel Laureate in Literature, the first woman writer in American history who received such a prestigious award.
