Lin Dehong


Lin Dehong, Emeritus Professor of history of science and philosophy of science and technology at the Department of Philosophy, Nanjing University. He studied at the Department of Philosophy, Renmin University of China from 1956 to 1961. After graduated from Renmin University, he taught history of science and philosophy of science and technology at the Department of politics (which was predecessor of the Department of philosophy) since then until retired. His main research interests are in philosophy of Marxism, philosophy of science and technology, and intellectual history of science. 


He has written several books, Duality of Matter and Spirit, Fifteen Lectures on Philosophy of Science and Technology, Intellectual History of Science, A Brief Introduction to Natural Science, Human and Machine, Crossing Space and Time: Einstein’s Theory of Relativity, and Wisdom of Eastern (coauthored with Zhang Xianglun). He has won many awards, such as First Prize in Philosophy and Social Science, Jiangsu Province. In 2014, he was awarded as honorary professor at Nanjing University (top position at Nanjing University). He was once the head of the Department of Philosophy, Nanjing University, vice president of the Federation of Philosophy and Social Science, Jiangsu Province.
