Zhang Fengyang

Professor Zhang Fengyang earned his M.A. and Ph.D. at Nanjing University and has been teaching here ever since. He is a member of the Chinese Association of Political Science and has been elected as the president of the Political Science Association of Jiangsu province in 2016. Meanwhile, he is also a member of the 12th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference national committee.

Professor Zhang Fengyang’s research has ranged from political philosophy, western political thought to cultural sociology. He has published a lot of papers and works on the above mentioned fields, including the Triumph of the Secular and the Genealogy of Modernity. He is also the co-author of a lot of books including The Keywords of Political Philosophy, Macro Political Science and Modern Western Thoughts of Sociology. His early research concentrated on the cultural movement of the 20th century. After that, he expanded his interest towards the tradition of western political thought and the historical and cultural changes along with it. For the last decade, he has been focused on the tradition of republicanism and has published a number of studies on this issue. Currently his major concern is to reinterpret the concept of the people, nation and populism and develop a new approach on the idea of nation-state.
