Key Laboratory of High Performance Polymer Materials and Technology(Nanjing University), Ministry of Education
The establishment of Nanjing University’s Key Laboratory of High Performance Polymer Materials and Technology was approved by the Ministry of Education in 2008, and the laboratory passed the inspection of the ministry in 2013. Since the mid-1960s, the faculty of polymer research at the university has taken responsibility for a series of state key projects for scientific and technological development. It has also undertaken many national programs since the 1980s, and it has made important contributions to the national defense construction and has been commended by the State Commission of Science and Technology for National Defense Industry.
Currently, the laboratory focuses on three areas of research: high performance polymer adhesives and coating materials and technology, surface/interface improvement technology and surface functionalization of polymer materials, and the design and fabrication of polymer functional materials.
The laboratory has 32 researchers, including 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1 National Expert with Remarkable Contributions, 3 winners of the National Outstanding Youth Fund Award, and 3 winners in the Ministry-of-Education Program for New Century Excellent Talents. Among the researchers there are 18 professors and 12 associate professors.
Over the past 5 years, the laboratory has been in charge of many projects, including 2 projects of the “973 Program,” 3 key projects supported by the National Natural Sciences Fund, 1 project supported by the National Outstanding Youth Fund, and 2 key projects of the Ministry of Education, with a total of over 50 million in grants. The laboratory has over 300 papers. Over 200 of them are included in SCI, and many of them have high impact and were published on first-class journals. The laboratory has applied for over 50 patents with 44 of them authorized. Besides, it has compiled many textbooks such as Introduction to Polymer Science and Polymer Physics.
The lab has won many national and provincial prizes, including 1 second prize of the National Natural Science Award, 1 first prize of the Ministry-of-Education Natural Sciences Award, 1 second prize of the National Scientific and Technological Progress Award and so on.
