The State Key Laboratory of Coordination Chemistry

The State Key Laboratory of Coordination Chemistry (SKLCC) conducts cutting-edge interdisciplinary research at the frontiers of inorganic, organic, materials and polymer chemistry. It is the first state key laboratory on inorganic chemistry in China.

Emerging from the Coordination Chemistry Institute of Nanjing University, the first inorganic chemistry research institute in China (established in 1978), the SKLCC was officially approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology in 1991. It achieved an “A level” laboratory accreditation in the first nation-wide evaluation in 1995 and has been ranked highly in subsequent evaluations (1999, 2004, 2009, and 2014). Led by Professors An-Bang Dai, Xiao-Zeng You and many others, the SKLCC has played a key role in the development of coordination chemistry research in China over the last three decades.

The SKLCC has now 46 researchers, including 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 3 Special Professors and 4 Lecture Professors of the “Cheung Kong Scholars Program”, and 9 winners of the National Outstanding Youth Fund Award.

The SKLCC has been focusing on basic coordination chemistry research including synthesis, structures, properties, functions and applications. The key research areas are based on the fundamental science and also closely related to the materials and life sciences, and include: (1) Functional coordination chemistry; (2) Bio-inorganic chemistry; (3) Solid state coordination chemistry; (4) Surface and interface coordination chemistry; and (5) Organometallic chemistry. A series of research achievements have been accomplished in the synthesis and characterization of coordination compounds possessing electronic, optical, magnetic, and biological properties, and in the assembly of supramolecular compounds and nano-sized materials. Recently, the SKLCC also emphasizes the combination of production and research.

SKLCC is well equipped with many modern analytical instruments and a well-trained technical team capable of providing all required services for research. The laboratory has won several major National Natural Science Awards and many other ministerial or provincial awards.

Each year since its establishment more than 200 research papers are published in the world-recognized journals. SKLCC also has close collaborations and scientific exchanges with domestic and foreign scientists and has hosted many national and international conferences.
