The State Key Laboratory of Pollution Control and Resource Reuse

The State Key Laboratory of Pollution Control and Resource Reuse relies on the research resources of environmental science and engineering of Tongji University and Nanjing University and offers an important platform for research and teaching of three national key disciplines (including Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, and Municipal Engineering) and seven Ph.D. programs. The laboratory, which was founded in 1991 at the approval of the State Planning Commission in 1989, formally came into operation in 1995 after it passed the state inspection. It passed all the national evaluations in 2000, 2005, 2010 and 2015.

The laboratory strives to meet the important needs of the country and target the state-of-the-art science and technology. Following the National Long- and Medium-Term Program of Sci-Tech Development Planning, it gives priority to the major and common environmental pollution issues arising from the rapid economic development and urbanization process. Combining basic and applied research in the field of pollution control and resource reutilization, it has conducted extensive, innovative and interdisciplinary research and has developed a series of pollution control and resource reusing technologies with independent intellectual properties in such fields as advanced treatment of municipal wastewater, industrial wastewater management and reuse, household refuse disposal and reuse, environment restoration and watershed pollution control.

Nowadays, the laboratory has been globally recognized as a platform for environmental and technological innovation, a center for international cooperation and exchange as well as a high-quality center for talent training.
