The State Key Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology
State Key Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, which is affiliated with Nanjing University, was approved to set up by the State Planning Committee and the State Education Commission in 1990. In 1995, the laboratory successfully passed the strict authentication by authorities. In 1998, 2001, 2006 and 2011, the laboratory successfully passed the regular evaluations sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Natural Science Foundation of China and the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Research Focus
1. To uncover the pathological genetic and/or epigenetic mechanisms of diseases heavily threatening human health, including cancer, cardiovascular disorders, immunological and metabolic diseases, neurological diseases; To find potential therapeutic targets based on model animal studies.
2. Basic research on biotech and novel drugs: to analyze the pharmacological effect of natural products and biomacromolecules on diseases and to study their druggability; Using genome editing technology to make animal models for key diseases and drug development.
3. To develop key technologies for biological pharmaceutics, including pharmaceutical preparation and drug delivery systems, disease models and analytical technologies, and real-time drug monitoring skills.
Research Groups
Currently, this laboratory has a stable and highly talented research team. It is composed of 61 permanent faculty members including 54 principal investigators (PIs). Among these PIs, eight professors were awarded the title of Cheung Kong Scholars by the State Ministry of Education, eleven professors were awarded Distinguished Youth Scholars by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and seventeen professors were awarded the title of Talents of the New Century by the State Ministry of Education.

Scientific Achievements
Over the last five years, this laboratory has been awarded 1 Second Prize of the National Science Award, 1 Special Prize of the Provincial Science Award and 5 First Prize of the Provincial Science Award. In total, 1345 scientific papers have been published by the faculties on SCI journals, including 19 highly-cited papers in ESI.
The faculty of this laboratory holds 1 American innovation patent，1 European innovation patent, 2 Japanese innovation patents and 111 Chinese innovation patents.
This laboratory has also obtained 1 registration certificate for in vitro diagnostic reagents. One drug is in the stage III of clinical trials.
