Ye Jiyuan

Ye Jiyuan majored in Library Science at Nanjing University between 1978 and 1981. From Feb. to July in 1984 he studied in School of Information Management at Sun Yat-sen University. From1987 to1991 he studied for an MA in Chinese History at Nanjing University. From 1981 to1991 he worked in Nanjing University for procurement, classification and catalogue of western journal. Since 1985 he held the positions of deputy director, chief director of the Periodicals’ Department. He started to teach in Department of Information Management in1984,and became a formal member of department’s faculty in 2002. He was recognized as an associate professor of library science in 1992, professor in 1996. master’s supervisor in 1997 and doctoral supervisor in 2001.

From Sep. 1999 to Sep. 2000 he was a visiting scholar at University of Kansas, USA, guest professor and senior visiting scholar at the School of Information Science and Technology, Drexel University, USA from July to Oct. in 2006.

He took the initiative to create Journal Society in 1989 and website for journals’ coordination of Chinese universities in 1994, and he was awarded by the Ministry of Education. He had undertaken some key programs of National Social Sciences Fund and the Ministry of Education. His publications include Introduction to Core Journals, Introduction to Academic Norm, The Research on the Development of the Periodical Information Resources, Research on Distribution of Academic Periodicals of Philosophy and Social Sciences in China, Introduction to Information Retrieval, Information Organization etc., which were awarded by the Ministry of Education and the government of Jiangsu Province for many times.

Ye Jiyuan is the distinguished professor of Nanjing University, the head of the teaching committee of the School of Information Management, the dean of the Department of Library and archives, the deputy director of the Evaluation Base for Humanities and Social Sciences of Nanjing University, the member of the Social Sciences Committee of the Ministry of Education, member of the fifth member of the Disciplinary review team, academic degrees committee of the State Council (2003-2008), the deputy director of the China Society of Indexers, deputy director and chief expert of Serials committee for Chinese universities library, the editoral adviser of American journal Historical Abstracts (1991-1997) and the dean of Library and Evaluation Committee of Library Society of China.
