Jiang Ningkang


Jiang Ningkang – professor of English literature and cultural studies in the Department of English at Nanjing University, China. He obtained his Ph.D in Literature at Cornell University in 2002 and returned to China in the same year. Since then he has worked at Nanjing University for more than 14 years. His publications include 5 books, such as: The Western Enlightenment and Literary Canon (2015), American Literary Canon & National Creativity (2014), Tianxia and Empire (2010), and Literature and National Identity in Contemporary America (2008); translated books in Chinese: Cultural Capital (2011) and The Western Canon (2005). In addition he has published more than 30 articles in both Chinese and English on literature, critical theory, and comparative cultural study. He obtained National Funds several times and was awarded by the Ministry of Education for the book The Western Canon (tran.) in 2010. As one of the chief experts in the National Program of Marxism Theory and Study, he is currently teaching courses such as “Critical Review of Contemporary Western Literary Trends and Theories,” “Cultural Criticism in English Literature,” “American Literature,” and “American Society and Culture.” He is also working now as the chief director on the national funding project “The Enlightenment Literature and National Identity,” a key research program approved by the National Social Science Foundation in 2016.
