Fan Jian


Fan Jian, a professor and doctoral advisor at Nanjing University School of Law, lawyer, and international arbitrator. Prof. Fan also serves as Vice President of China Commercial Law Society, and President of Jiangsu Commercial Law Society. He served as Dean of Nanjing University School of Law from 1992 to 2001, Chinese Director of German-Chinese Institute for Legal Studies, Member of the 8th Committee of All-China Youth Federation, Member of the 1st Steering Committee of Legal Education of Ministry of Education. He was appointed Consultant for Reform Projects in Vietnam by UNDP in 1999. And he was awarded as “Top 10 National Distinguished Young Jurists” in 1995. Prof. Fan graduated from Nanjing University School of Law in 1988 and studied at the University of Göttingen from 1989 to 1991. He was a visiting scholar at Columbia University in the City of New York from 2000-2001. His major specialty areas of research and legal practice include Commercial Law, Corporate Law, Securities Law, Economic Law, and International Trade Law, etc. He has published more than 30 monographs and collections, and over 160 academic articles. And he has presided over more than 10 National Social Science Fund projects. He was commissioned by the Ministry of Education to draft a syllabus for Chinese Commercial Law education. And Commercial Law, a textbook for National Core Curriculum of Law, was issued under his general editorship. He served as the First Chair Professor of the textbook Commercial Law for Marxist Theory Engineering of the Ministry of Education. He has been to more than 30 countries and regions in the world to engage in academic exchange or to resolve cross-border legal disputes.
