Zhang Xianwen


Prof. Zhang Xianwen is a famous historian, and an honorary distinguished professor of Humanities and Social Sciences of Nanjing University. He graduated from the History Department of Nanjing University in 1958. He once served as Director of the History Department of Nanjing University and Director of the School of History. Now he serves as Honorary Director of the Center for the History of Republic of China at Nanjing University. In recent six years, he has been engaging himself in both teaching and scientific research.


Prof. Zhang’s main research areas cover the modern history of China, the history of the Republic of China, the history of the Anti-Japanese War and the history of the Nanjing massacre. He has completed a number of provincial, international and cross-straits collaborative projects.


His publications include A Collection of the Historical Materials Relating to Nanjing Massacre (72 volumes),The Nanking Massacre: A Complete History(3 volumes), A History of the Nanjing Massacre, History of Chinese Anti-Japanese War (4 volumes),  History of the Republic of China (4 volumes), Biography of Chiang Kai-shek, Special history of the Republic of China (18 volumes)
