Nanjing University and German Partner to Sustain Science Collaboration

Nanjing University and Freiburg University in Germany signed on October 10 a new agreement on advancing sustainable collaboration in scientific research the Nanjing visit of Freiburg’s president Hans-JohenSchiewer together with the biochemistry and material science professors from his university.  



President Chen Jun extended welcome to the visitors, and together they research cooperation, talent training, science and technology transfer.    


President Chen expressed his gratitude to the support of President Schiewer for the cooperation of the two universities.


The two universities, said Chen, can complement each other’ with their strengths.


The material discipline at Freiburg University, he said,has successful experience of solving economic and social problems and staying in touch with industrial sectors while Nanjing University, as one of the top 20 universities in 2016 World University Rankings, has made much progress in basic scientific research. It should learn to combine scientific research and industrial application and bring benefits to society and talent training.


President Schiewer affirmed the strategic partnership between the two schools and expressed his gratitude for the efforts that Nanjing University has made at the joint construction of the Contemporary China Research Center.  


Freiburg University or Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, he pointed out, is now preparing to apply to the third Excellent University Plan made by the German Government, it hopes to get support from Nanjing University to strengthen its competitiveness.


Freiburg University also has an innovation center and hopes to cooperate with Nanjing University to foster talented people with innovation and entrepreneurship, said Schiewer. 


The two presidents signed the Supplementary Agreement on Advancing Sustainable Science Collaboration at the end of the meeting.



During the visit, vice president Chen Chongqing also met with the delegation and discussed the ways of using the strengths of Nanjing University’s basic scientific research to boost the cooperation in various scientific fields.  


Both sides pledged to support exchange visits between scholars of the two schools so as to advance joint scientific development.


In the afternoon of October 10, President Schiewer and his delegation visited School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, the “Contemporary China Research Center” at the School of Sociology and the School of Life Sciences, and professors from both sides discussed various possibilities of future cooperation.    


In the morning of October 11, the German delegation talked with professors and students from School of Engineering and Applied Sciences about the details of cooperation in materials science.
