NJU Holds 58th Track & Field Games

Nanjing University’s 58th Track and Field Games was opened on the second track-and-field ground of Xianlin Campus on the morning of November 3.   


Attending the opening ceremony were Chen Jun, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and president of the university, Liu Hongjian, vice chancellor of the university, and leaders of the university’s various departments.    


The ceremony was presided over by Wang Zhilin, vice president of the university.   


Marching into the arena in exciting music were square teams holding flags and flowers and athlete teams of 28 schools and departments and disciplinary groups.   

 

The spectators applauded to the songs, dances, drama shows and other forms of performance by students of various colleges and disciplinary groups. The sports ground was permeated with the active, energetic, forward-striving sports spirit.

On behalf of the university, Liu Hongjian congratulated on the convening of the 58th Games, extended greetings to all the athletes and referees and expressed his gratitude to all the staff who had worked hard in the preparation of the games.   

 

Nanjing University, he pointed out, cannot establish itself as a world-class university without healthy bodies of its teachers, students and staff.    


The university is committed to the concepts of all-round development and health first, and it has made new breakthroughs and achievements in physical education and physical education research, extra-curricular sports activities and sports competition.    


Liu hoped that athletes will carry forward the sportsmanship of faster, stronger and stronger during the games, that referees and staff will make fair and accurate judgments and the spectators will be good audiences who watch the sports events in an orderly way.

The two-day games witnessed fierce competition between athletes in race, long jump, hurdling, throwing games and so on.    

This year, since the university put its freshmen in disciplinary groups, the games committee also put the sophomores, junior and senior students in A-Group and freshmen in B-Group.    


The School of Business, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences  and School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering ranked the first three in A-Group.    


The School of Business and Social Science Experimental Class both ranked the first in B-Group, while the Engineering Experimental Class and School of Software ranked the second and the third.
