Electromagnetist, Former US University Head Appointed Special Adviser to President of Nanjing University


An induction ceremony was held on May 24 in honor of Professor Zhang Zhongjun, who received the letter of appointment from President Lyu Jian and is now special adviser to president of Nanjing University.     


Present at the ceremony were Yuan Mingqiu, wife of Professor Zhang, Vice President Wang Zhilin and other leaders of the university.

Professor Zhang Zhongjun is a Chinese American, born in 1941, who is a world famous specialist in electromagnetics and a life fellow of the US Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).    


He used to serve as chancellor of New York University (NYU), president of the Polytechnic Institute of NYU, and chair of the Committee of 100, an organization of Chinese Americans.    


As one of the only three Chinese American university presidents in the United States, Professor Zhang has long taken great interest in Nanjing University’s talent education, especially its education on innovation and entrepreneurship.    


He helped found Nanjing University-New York Institute of Technology International College for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and served as its honorary president.    

  

The meeting   


After the ceremony, Gao Xinfang, director of the office of innovation and entrepreneurship, reported to Professor Zhang Zhongjun and his colleagues on the work of the college for innovation and entrepreneurship over the past year.    


At the end of the report, other participants at the meeting discussed in depth the future development and reform of the college.
