Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Data Engineering and Knowledge Service

The laboratory was established in 2014 by the joint efforts of Nanjing University and Jiangsu Institute of Science and Technology Information.

It was built on the basis of Nanjing University’s institute of information technology development, which was established in 1994 and focused on the research and software development for information management and knowledge service, information processing and retrieval, and information analysis and scientific assessment. In these areas, it yielded outstanding results and social impact. The current laboratory and its predecessor both emphasize the research and teaching of modern technology relevant to the management of information resources, keep absorbing the latest achievements in information technology, apply the data mining theory and technology to the processing of information resources, utilize mathematic theories, hypertext technology and artificial intelligence in the research of information retrieval computing, and carry out multi-dimensional processing of citation indexes by adopting Chinese Social Sciences citation indexes established upon databases and introducing online analytical processing.

The achievements of the laboratory:

It has taken charge of over 10 major national social science biding projects, projects of the National Natural Science Fund, projects of the National Social Science Fund, and provincial level and enterprise projects.

It has published over 400 papers on academic journals at home and abroad, including over 70 published on first-rate national and international journals (cited by SCI, EI, and ISTP).

It has published over 10 books.

It has won many awards from the Ministry of Education, Jiangsu Philosophy and Social Sciences, and Nanjing University.

The director of the laboratory is Professor Ye Ying (Fred Y. Ye), who works in School of Information Management, Nanjing University. He is a fellow of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts.

The director of the academic committee of the laboratory, its academic leader, is Professor Su Xinning, who also works in School of Information Management, Nanjing University. He is a winner of the title of the Ministry-of-Education Cheung Kong Scholar.

The laboratory has a full-time or part-time faculty of nearly 50 people. Its major research areas include data integration and planning, knowledge correlation technology, data analysis theories and knowledge service technology in the context of big data, with the highest priority given to the last research areas.

In cooperation with relevant enterprises and public institutions, the laboratory will establish a demonstrative platform for data, technology and service, facilitating transformation and promotion of related applications and technology.

As an open laboratory, the Key Laboratory of Data Engineering and Knowledge Services will also provide data and equipment platforms every year, setting up open topics for scholars from at home and abroad to participate in the studies of data engineering and knowledge service.

The laboratory is committed to putting its strengths into full play, studying cutting-edge issues of information science, and enhancing its scientific research quality. On the one hand, it is going to increase the quantity and quality of its research results. On the other hand, it will continue to cultivate more qualified and capable professionals and talents with a broad and solid professional foundation in information technology who can meet social demands for talents. It will work to build itself into a scientific research institution that integrates industry, university and research.
